Is Fear a Choice? (#870)

There is a trailer for Will Smith’s new movie, After Earth, which contains the following lines:
“Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice.”

It’s a beautiful sentiment, but each time I watch the trailer, the same question occurs for me:

Is fear really a choice?…

As you are no doubt aware (and my apologies if it feels as though I’ve bombarded you with the information :-), my newest book, The Inside-Out Revolution was released worldwide in the past week. Despite a few glitches (Amazon in the US was late getting stock and then sold out before it could fulfill all the orders), the book quickly went into the top 100 books in the United Kingdom and hit number one in both the Self-Help and New Age categories…

The Blue Line (#867)

When I was growing up, my uncle was a huge fan of Joe Paterno, who coached the Penn State football team for nearly 60 years. While recent revelations about Coach Paterno have put a dampener on his legacy, to my uncle and many of the young men that he coached he was a heroic figure.

Each year, or so the story went, Coach Paterno would have the groundskeeper paint a blue line on the practice field. He would then explain the blue line to his players like this:

“When you cross that blue line onto the field, you leave the rest of your life behind. Your problems with your girlfriends, classes, family, and friends are all gone. On this side of the blue line, it’s all football.”…
